In August, Integrity Communications Group (ICG)’s CEO, Mark Cornford, and Labels Managing Director Lewis Hand, embarked on an exhilarating team-building adventure organised by Civvy 2 Commando. They took part in a demanding yomp to Foggintor on Dartmoor, an exercise designed to push both physical and mental limits.
Accompanied by a Mountain Leader and Ex-Royal Marine, the group of four formed a squad that undertook a gruelling 24-mile trek. This yomp is not just any ordinary walk; it mirrors one of the critical phases in the Royal Marine Selection Process, where recruits must navigate 30 miles within a strict 8-hour time frame. Though the challenge Mark and Lewis faced was slightly shorter, it was no less intense.
Reflecting on the experience, both Mark and Lewis acknowledged the challenge. They were each tasked with carrying heavy rucksacks, which began to take their toll after the 10-mile mark. The rugged terrain added another layer of difficulty, but despite these obstacles, the team pressed on. In the end, they completed the 24.5-mile yomp in 10 hours and 40 minutes, a remarkable achievement given the conditions.
To cap off the experience, the group faced a final test: abseiling down a 100-foot cliff. Although intimidating, Mark and Lewis successfully navigated the descent, finishing the day with a well-earned sense of accomplishment. After the yomp and abseil, the team set up camp and spent the night under the stars, reflecting on their achievements.
Upon returning, both Mark and Lewis felt immense pride in what they had accomplished together. Mark shared his thoughts on the experience, saying, “Not only was it an incredible challenge, but I really appreciated the opportunity to strengthen bonds with my colleagues. A massive thank you to our guides for giving us this opportunity.”
