Mark Wills Once Again Completes Duathlon

ICG is delighted to see our sponsored athlete, Mark Wills, take to the start line of the World Sprint Duathlon Championships in Pontevedra, Spain back in June. Having secured his place on Team GBR back in March, Mark travelled with family and fellow squad members for the Opening Ceremony and Parade of Nations the day before—and from the very first moment, the atmosphere was electric.

The following day, Mark lined up among other seasoned duathletes, representing countries from USA, France, Mexico, New Zealand, Slovakia and Germany. Competing in the 45–49 category against 49 athletes, he embraced every challenging kilometre of the course and finished an impressive 20th overall.

Mark set off on the undulating two‑lap city circuit with tremendous pace, clocking what was almost a personal best on road terrain. Despite the twists and turns through Pontevedra’s historic streets, he maintained an average of just over 3:37 per kilometre—testament to the months of dedicated training. He completed his Run 1 (5km) at 18 minutes 08 seconds.

Leaving the city behind, the route climbed steadily into the foothills, a section that perfectly suited Mark’s strengths. Here he caught and passed numerous competitors, making the most of every pedal stroke. Then came the exhilarating descent back down to the city, where he hurtled along the fast, straight roads to complete the cycle leg. Mark finished the bike section in 32 minutes and 14 seconds.

Despite fatigue setting in, Mark emptied the tank on the final leg, maintaining sub‑6‑minute miles throughout the lap. With the last stretch completed at 9 minutes 20 seconds, his determination carried him across the finish line. Transitions included, Mark finished in an overall time of 1 hr 3 min 49 sec—a performance that featured ex‑professionals and national champions in the field.

Mark reflected afterwards, “All the hard graft paid off and I gave everything I had. Racing at full fitness like this brings a real sense of redemption after last year’s crash at the European Championships. I’m chuffed to have worn the Integrity Communications Group logo on my trisuit—your support definitely gave me that extra push.” The event concluded perfectly with a celebratory meal and a few well‑earned beers by the beach, surrounded by family and friends.

We at ICG couldn’t be prouder of Mark’s achievements. Supporting local heroes and investing in personal achievements is at the heart of what we do—whether it’s sponsoring duathletes, backing charity fundraisers or collaborating with community initiatives. Congratulations, Mark, on a stellar performance in Pontevedra, and thank you for inspiring us all!
