A Tree of Integrity: A Unique Christmas Celebration

This year, St Peter’s Church in Westfield played host to a truly remarkable event—the Christmas Tree Festival. A celebration of creativity and community spirit, the festival saw 33 unique trees crafted and displayed by local businesses, schools, charities, and church groups. Among these dazzling displays, one stood out: the Integrity Communications Group (ICG) Christmas tree.

Conceived by the church’s social group back in September, the event required months of planning and collaboration. Letters went out to over 100 organisations, and the response exceeded all expectations. From the initial hope of 30 trees, the festival surpassed its goal, featuring an impressive 33 entries. Alongside the trees, visitors enjoyed children’s activities, a craft stall, a raffle, and an array of delicious treats, from cakes to festive rolls filled with pigs in blankets or chicken and cranberry sauce. Musical performances added to the magical atmosphere, with brass bands, choirs, and the church’s own ensemble filling the air with Christmas cheer.

ICG’s tree captured the imagination of festival-goers, ultimately earning the first prize in the public vote. Graham Price, an Ink Technician at ICG’s Ink Surgery, took on the challenge with a unique vision: to construct a tree entirely from materials sourced within the company. His goal was to create a piece that not only represented ICG’s capabilities but also stood apart from traditional designs.

The base of the tree was crafted from an ink bucket, wrapped in a tailored works jumper for a touch of practicality, as it housed the battery packs for the lights. The trunk was fashioned from sturdy cardboard tubes supplied by the Labels division. But the winning piece was the tree’s foliage, painstakingly designed in collaboration with Sam Seymour from Pre-press. Each leaf, crafted from square sheets of paper, featured the logos of ICG’s four main divisions, reducing in size as they ascended the tree. A star, made from plastic ink knives cut and reassembled, crowned the creation.

Visitors marvelled at its intricate details and the story behind its creation. The public vote solidified its place as the festival’s standout entry, earning ICG the top spot, followed by Sunflowers Day Nursery and a tie for third between G Mitchard and Sons and St Nicholas Pre-school.

Now displayed proudly in the main reception at ICG, the tree is a reminder of what can be achieved through teamwork, resourcefulness, and a touch of festive spirit. It stands not only as a symbol of the company’s capabilities but also as a celebration of community and the joy of Christmas.

Whether it is taking part in charity walks, sponsoring local sports teams, planting trees, collaborating with children’s charities, or supporting fundraiser trips, the Integrity Communications Group has always looked to make a valuable and positive contribution both locally and nationally.
